Mutiny on the Bounty 1962
Mutiny on the Bounty The Bounty travels across Britain towards Tahiti under the command of the command of Captain William Bligh ( Trevor Howard). His task is to collect breadfruit seeds and then transport the seeds to Jamaica. The government is hoping that the plants flourish and provide affordable food for slaves.
The discovery of the missing cheese leads to a difficult beginning to the journey. Bligh charges Seaman John Mills ( Richard Harris), of being the real pilferer. Mills is brutally flogged by Bligh for ignoring his superior officer, to the chagrin of the First Lieutenant Fletcher Christian, Marlon Marko. Bligh’s tense declaration, “Cruelty without a purpose isn’t a crime, it’s effectiveness” sets the foundation for the coming months. The captain of his ambitious ship is upset by Christian who is an Aristocrat.
Bligh is trying to get to Tahiti earlier, by taking the more direct westbound route that circles Cape Horn. This is a nightmare for navigation and a major error. The plan fails, and the Bounty returns to its route to the east, causing delays to the mission by a quite a bit. Bligh is focused on compensating the time lost by pushing the crew to the limit and reducing their food intake. Mutiny on the Bounty HD
The Bounty is at her destination, and the crew is able to enjoy the laid-back life of the tropical paradise as well as the philosophies of freedom that are cherished by the Tahitian ladies. Christian is in love with Maimiti ( Tarita Teriipaia) who is the daughter of the Tahitian King. Bligh’s fury is further fueled due to the slowing of the breadfruit’s growth causes longer than usual time before the plants are planted. Three people, including a seaman Mills are attempting to leave as the day of departure is near, but are held back by Christian and dressed in irons.
Bligh, who is traveling to Jamaica is trying to bring back two times as many breadfruit plants as he has lost. He also has to reduce the water rations of the crew to water the additional plants. In the process of retrieving the water bottle for drinking, one of the crew members slips off the rigging and dies. One of the crew members is agressive Bligh regarding ship conditions and gets fatally wounded. Mills ridicules Christian each time he dies in an attempt to motivate Christian to take on Bligh. Christian is attempting to provide fresh water to a crew member who is seriously ill due to drinking sea water. This is in contravention of Captain Bligh’s instructions. Christian is slapped by Bligh when he fails to follow his second commandment. In response, Christian strikes Bligh. Christian is told by Bligh that he’ll be penalized for his actions when they arrive at port. Christian who has no stakes, assumes control of the vessel and sets Bligh and the crew of loyalist members, as well as the navigational equipment equipped to adrift in the longboat . He instructs the crew to locate an island in the local area. Bligh decides to travel across the Pacific to get to British officials earlier. Bligh returns to Britain at a rapid pace.
Bligh is cleared by the military court , and it suggests that an expedition be organized to arrest the mutineers and bring them before the court for trial. But, the military court also finds that Bligh’s selection as the captain of the Bounty was not correct. Christian returns to Tahiti and gets supplies and his girlfriends. Then, they sail to the distant Pitcairn Island, that is not marked correctly in the chart, hoping to avoid the fury of the Royal Navy. Christian however decides that it’s his responsibility to travel back to Britain to prove Bligh’s crimes and asks his crew to go with Bligh. Christian is killed while trying to stop the ship from burning by the crew.
